Does my text ever leave my browser or get stored on a server?

No. When you encrypt or decrypt text online with this tool, the plaintext, password, and ciphertext are processed entirely in your browser. They are not uploaded to the server or stored in a database. The site may load static assets such as JavaScript and CSS and may use anonymous analytics to understand overall traffic, but the content you encrypt or decrypt is never logged on our servers.

Why does the encrypted text change every time with the same input and password?

This behavior is expected for a secure online text encrypter. Each encryption uses fresh random values such as a salt and initialization vector, so even if you encrypt the same text with the same password, the resulting ciphertext will look different every time. This randomness is a security feature and does not affect your ability to decrypt later, as all required parameters are encoded into the encrypted text.

What happens if I forget my password? Can you recover my data?

If you forget the password, the encrypted text cannot be recovered. There is no backdoor and we do not store a copy of your password or your plaintext. This is a core property of password-based encryption: only someone who knows the correct password can decrypt the data. Always choose a password you can remember and consider storing it in a secure password manager if the message is important.

What is the QR code feature for?

The QR code feature encodes the encrypted text into a QR code so you can print it, show it on a screen, or share it as an image. Someone else can then scan that QR code and use this tool to decrypt the underlying ciphertext with the correct password. This is useful for small secrets, puzzles, classroom exercises, or situations where scanning is more convenient than copy and paste.

Why does decryption sometimes fail?

Decryption can fail for several reasons. The most common are an incorrect password, a ciphertext that has been truncated or modified, or text that was not generated by this tool. Copy and paste errors, extra whitespace, and corrupted QR scans can also cause problems. If decryption fails, double-check the password, make sure the encrypted string is complete, and verify that it originally came from Encrypter.site.

Can two people use different browsers or devices and still decrypt the same ciphertext?

Yes. As long as the ciphertext was generated by this tool and the other person uses the same tool and password, they can decrypt it in any modern browser on desktop or mobile. The encrypted text encodes all technical parameters needed for decryption, so it does not matter which device or operating system is used.
